American Reality: Vietnam

Joe Jukic and Angelina Jolie – A Conversation on American Reality

Joe leans back in his chair and shakes his head.

“Vietnam proved something to the world,” he says. “America likes to say it’s the world police, but to a lot of people it looked more like the world bully.”

Angelina nods thoughtfully. She has spent years visiting refugee camps and war zones through her work with the United Nations.

“The war in Vietnam changed how people saw American power,” she says. “But the lesson shouldn’t be that the world rejects peacekeeping. The lesson is that no single country can impose peace alone.”

Joe raises an eyebrow. “So what’s the alternative?”

Angelina answers calmly.

“The only way people will ever accept something like a global peace enforced by the West—a Pax Americana—is if it’s not just America. It has to come through international legitimacy. That means the United Nations.”

She smiles slightly.

“That’s actually why my son is named Pax.”

Joe looks curious.

“You mean literally peace?”

Angelina nods again. “Yes. My son Pax Thien Jolie‑Pitt. His name means peace. I adopted him from Vietnam, and the name is a reminder that peace has to come after war.”

Joe reflects for a moment.

“So the idea is: not Pax Americana by force… but peace through the world agreeing together?”

Angelina shrugs gently.

“That’s the only kind of peace people will trust.” ✌️🌍

Our diversity is our strength. What a dull and pointless life it would be if everyone was the same.
